The Acanthus leaf made a comeback in the Régence style. It is an ornamental design inspired by the leaves of Mediterranean plants, very popular in Greek architecture. It is one of the ornamental designs typical of this style. It is applied like gold leaf on a marble base, and transforms the raw aspect of the material to enlighten and add grace to it.
The majestic Damask décor takes us back in time to the pomp and splendour of King Louis XIV. Twisted metallic threads are applied to a smooth, matt base. The glossy-matt contrast accentuates the feeling of depth and perspective of this design. It is available in various colours. – Tone on tone, for a warm, elegant interior. – Contrasting, inspired by the grandeur of the Napoleonic era for the black-gold version; or green-silver for an even bolder statement. The thread-on-thread projects a more understated look and calls for a return to the essentials: the comfort and intimacy of the Régence style. A metallic thread enhances natural tones such as iridescent white, beige, taupe, and grey-black. Moire is a fabric produced using the calendering technique consisting of folding the fabric and passing it through pressurised rollers. This slightly distorts the thread, and the reflection of the light creates an undulatory effect. It provides elegance and the feel of a warm, welcoming interior. It captures the charm and voluptuousness of the delicate wall hangings once used to adorn ladies’ boudoirs. This shimmering fabric is available in soft hues such as ivory and powder pink, as well as in more contemporary colours which provide energy and spark, like a revolution slowly brewing which then explodes onto the scene with purple, orange or green! Modernism is in the air.
The Ornament décor, a metallic print on moire heightens the effect of reflections of light and creates a trompe-l’oeil illusion. Its subtlety and reflections invoke the fleur-de-lys, the symbol of majesty and kings.
